Howard Joseph

Growing up in the very stormy and snowy Twin Cities, I knew I was going to be a meteorologist from age 6.  In fact, when I was 14, I managed to land a trainee position with the National Weather Service in Minneapolis.  When I got to college though (Winona State University in Winona, MN), I started working for the campus radio station, KQAL.  That got me interested in broadcasting as a career.  A few years later, my love for weather started me back down the path to becoming a meteorologist...but I never lost his desire to be in radio.  So, I continued to plug away at my meteorological studies while I satiated my desire to be a DJ.  But, I always served as a "weather expert" at whatever station I was working for.  In my early years in radio, I worked for stations like KROC-FM in Rochester, MN, KWNO-AM in Winona, MN, KMA-AM in Shenandoah and WCOW-FM in Sparta, WI (Todd Collins used to work there too, but he was way more popular than me).

I swore that once I got into weather full time, it would be in radio.  I had no desire to work in TV.  But, as luck would have itthe opportunity to try TV came along, and in 1994 I made the jumptaking a full time position with WKBT-TV, the CBS affiliate in La Crosse, WI.  In 2005, I made the jump back again, and here I am.  A career as a radio meteorologist is what I have always hoped for, so I am delighted to have this opportunity.  Especially in an area where the weather is active as it is here.  Of course, spending the morning with Todd and Jamie ain't nuthin' to sneeze at either.

When I am not forecasting or on the radio, I enjoy music, computers and I bleed purple.  No, it's not that I don't get enough oxygen.  It's because I have been, and ever shall be, a die-hard Minnesota Vikings fan.

I live on 35 acre farm with my wife, 10 cats, 6 dogs, 2 bats, 1 raccoon and a family of wild turkeys.  Actually, it's the turkeys' farm, they just let us live there.  For now.
