Baseball regular season, the Tampa Bay Rays have opened a 4 and
a-half game lead over Boston in the American League East. Carlos
Pena slugged a three-run homer in a four-run third inning that
powered the first-place Rays past Texas 7-4 last night.
BALTIMORE (AP) - The Boston Red Sox are in Baltimore to start a
nine-game road trip against all AL East teams. The Sox were routed
15-4 yesterday in Toronto to fall to 21-and-23 in division play.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - A major league pitching record was tied
yesterday, but it's not the type of record most pitchers would
want. Seattle knuckleballer R.A. Dickey tied a major league record
by throwing four wild pitches in an inning against Minnesota to
share a record held by Hall of Famers Walter Johnson and Phil
Niekro (NEE'-kroh), among others.
BROOKLYN, Mich. (AP) - Carl Edwards posted a NASCAR sweep by
following up on Saturday's Nationwide Series win by winning the
Sprint Cup race at Michigan International Speedway. Edwards has won
two of the last three Sprint Cup events to close in on Series
points leader Kyle Busch with three races left before the Chase for
the Sprint Cup championship.
OTTAWA (AP) - Australian Katherine Hull is celebrating her first
win on the LPGA Tour, a one-shot victory over Se Ri Pak (seh ree
pahk). The 26-year-old Hull started the final round six shots back
of leader Yani Tseng (sehng), who collapsed with a final-round 77
to finish in third place.
