IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - The University of Iowa faces a hefty
repair bill for the flood of 2008 -- more than 75 million dollars
in cleanup and structure replacement costs. Officials say the
figure could climb because it doesn't include utility and tunnel
damage, business interruption or excess fuel costs.
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) - Officials are assessing the damage in
Benton County after a tornado touched down near Van Horne. It
damaged a hog confinement building and machine sheds, but spared
two farmhouses. No one was hurt.
INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (AP) - A Buchanan County judge has delayed a
ruling in an Amish visitation case until a related case pending in
Fayette County is resolved. At issue is a custody battle between an
Amish mother and her daughter's non-Amish father, who was granted
visitation rights.
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - Two former Iowa football players accused
of sexually assaulting a woman in a dorm room last fall are due in
court later this month. A July 17th arraignment is set for Cedric
Everson and Abe Satterfield. Football coach Kirk Ferentz and
associate athletic director Fred Mims are listed as potential
witnesses for the trial.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - It appears Iowa's new smoking ban could
be headed to court. A group of bar and restaurant owners has filed
a lawsuit in Polk County seeking to overturn the statewide ban.
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) - Two dozen FEMA mobile homes have
arrived in Cedar Rapids as temporary housing for flood-displaced
families. The trailers aren't luxurious, but as one FEMA official
says the trailers have "everything that is required to live."

fields means a delay in a July 4th tradition in Iowa -- sweet corn.
Some growers say their corn won't be ready for another few weeks,
which means imported corn from Georgia and Florida.
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) - Police have arrested a Cedar Rapids
man on charges he used a fake ID to obtain more than $900 in flood
benefits. Police say Nathan Blakley scammed the American Red Cross
by using identification that showed him witide of
the flood zone in order to obtain rent assistance.
AMES, Iowa (AP) - Hundreds of Iowa companies lost workers,
revenue and continue to face challenges to recovery in the
aftermath of recent flooding. That's according to new survey data
from Iowa State University Extension's Center for Industrial
Research and Service.
DES MOINES, Iowagroup of bar and restaurant owners has
filed a lawsuit in Polk County District Court seeking to overturn a
new statewide smoking ban. The Iowa Bar Owners Coalition, based in
Clinton County, filed a petition in Polk County District Court in
Des Moines on Tuesday. The group's attorney, George Eichorn says
he's seeking a temporary injunction on the enforcement of the ban
until the case can go to trial. No court date has been set.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - And in sports, Iowa and Iowa State
football fans now have something in common to root for: a possible
deal between Mediacom and the Big Ten Network. Iowa officials say
the September 13th matchup between the Hawkeyes and Cyclones will
be televised on the Big Ten Network. Mediacom, Iowa's largest cable
TV provider, does not carry the network.
