NEWTON, Iowa (AP) - Iowa is keeping its slot on the Indy Racing
League's 2009 schedule.
The league released its IndyCar series schedule on Wednesday.
For the third straight year, the Iowa Speedway in Newton will
feature a race.
The Iowa Speedway IndyCar race is scheduled for June 21, between
events at the Texas Motor Speedway and the Richmond International
Raceway.
Iowa remained on the schedule even while venues in other states,
such as Nevada and New Hampshire, lost there's.
IRL President of Competition and Operations Brian Barnhart says
the IndyCar Series has built a firm relationship with Iowa Speedway
after the main event drew crowds of 35,000 in 2006 and 40,000 last
month.
NEW YORK (AP) - The New York Yankees have acquired a 14-time
All-Star to replace injured catcher Jorge Posada, getting Ivan
Rodriguez from the Detroit Tigers for reliever Kyle Farnsworth.
Rodriguez is batting .295 with five homers in 82 games this season,
giving him a career .302 average with 293 home runs and 1,214 RBIs.
The Yankees also sent receiver LaTroy Hawkins to the Astros for a
minor league infielder.
UNDATED (AP) - First basemen Mark Teixeira and
Casey Kotchman failed to get a hit in their first game since being

Boston. Kotchman was 0-for-5 for Atlanta in a 7-2 loss to St.
Louis.
UNDATED (AP) - The most talked-about pitcher last night seemed

worked four innings in his first start since undergoing Tommy John
surgery, and Florida's Josh Johnson notched his first victory in
four starts since having the procedure 11 months ago.
Meanwhile, Atlanta Braves pitcher Tim Hudson likely will undergo
season-ending Tommy John surgery after two doctors recommended
the operation.
GREEN BAY, Wisc. (AP) - Packers president Mark Murphy returned
to Green Bay last night after meeting with Brett Favre in
Mississippi earlier in the day. Murphy declined to reveal the
nature of the discussion amid reports out of Milwaukee that say the
Packers have offered the quarterback substantial money to stay
retired. Meanwhile, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell took no action
yesterday on Favre's request for reinstatement, giving the sides
more time to work out a resolution.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Reggie
Williams will have arthroscopic surgery after re-injuring his right
knee during training camp. Williams initially hurt the knee working
out last week and opened camp on the physically unable to perform

tweaked his knee during the evening session.
