       AMES, Iowa (AP) - Iowa State basketball coach Greg McDermott is getting a vote of confidence from athletic director Jamie Pollard despite a disappointing season. The Cyclones started out strong but stumbled in the second half to finish 15-16 with four Big 12 wins.
    
       PARK RIDGE, Ill. (AP) - Ohio State guard Evan Turner has been named the Big Ten's player of the year in separate voting by conference coaches and members of the media. Turner was tops in conference scoring, averaging just over 20 points per Big Ten game.
    
       UNDNATED (AP) - The Iowa Energy of the NBA Development League are idle for several days ahead of a pair of weekend road games against the Maine Red Claws. With nine regular-season matchups to go, the Energy lead the East Conference by six games with a record of 31-10.
    
       PHOENIX (AP) - Ryan Dempster has made his spring debut with two perfect innings in the Chicago Cubs' 10-3 victory over the Oakland Athletics in Phoenix. Derrek Lee and Aramis Ramirez each drove in a run for the Cubs yesterday. Ryan Theriot had two hits, walked once and scored twice.
