DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Des Moines police will investigate a stabbing allegedly committed by an 8-year-old girl despite the victim's preference no charges be filed. Noble Griffin reportedly
told police the stabbing occurred when he and a guest at his apartment began arguing. The woman told her daughter to get a knife. The child complied, allegedly stabbing Griffin several times in the back.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Gov. Chet Culver is urging lawmakers to toughen restrictions on drivers who send text messages. The governor called for a tougher ban today, a day after the House approved a revamped measure aimed at young drivers. Culver is confident an agreement will be reached allowing Iowa to become eligible for millions of federal highway safety dollars.

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) - The Cedar Falls Board of Education has voted to offer early retirement incentives for the first time in more than 25 years. The offer will be made to eligible associates, secretaries, clerical staff, technicians and administrators. Those who qualify will receive 50 percent of their 2009-10 base salary in a minimum of 24 equal payments over two years.
