An early morning fire on Saturday caused severe damage to a restroom at Brookside Park in Ames.
Authorities say the fire appears to have started in a nearby garbage can and spread to the wood awning on the building and onto the roof. Several areas of the roof collapsed, officials said in the release.
Both the men’s and women’s restrooms were closed and portable toilets were brought to the park. Damage was estimated at about $50,000. The investigation is continuing.
