A Brooklyn man is dead after failing to make his way around a curve on Highway 6 in Jasper County.

Justin Smith’s motorcycle then hit a mailbox before  vaulting off a driveway. A passenger, Christine Carlson of Osklaloosa was injured and taken to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.

The Iowa State Patrol says while the accident is being looked into, speed and alcohol are likely involved in the crash.
