A lot of hard work and tough decision making resulted in 29 Marshall County programs receiving grants last night from the Community Foundation of Marshall County. Over 95-thousand dollars in total grants were awarded, plus ten thousand more coming from STEP-Students Teaching and Empowering Philanthropy, which involves students at East Marshall, West Marshall and Marshalltown. Co-Chair DAvid Barajas says it was a tough task narrowing the 38 applications, asking for over 200-thousand dollars, down to the funds the board had to work with.
Marshall County Organizations receiving grants this year include: 13th Street District, Albion Municipal Library and Heritage Center, Center Associates, Child Abuse and Prevention Services, City of Haverhill, City of State Center Fire and EMS, Common Bond Communities, Emergency Residence Project, Friends of the Melbourne Public Library, Friends of the Orpheum Theater, Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa, Heart of Iowa Big Brothers and Big Sister, Iowa River Hospice, Iowa State Extension and Outreach – Marshall County, Iowa Valley Leadership, Marshall County Arts and Culture Alliance, Marshalltown Area Soccer League, Marshalltown Community School District, Marshalltown Youth Foundation, Mid Iowa Community Action, North Star Community Services, Northeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging, Rose Festival Association of State Center, Salvation Army of Marshall County, YMCA-YWCA and Youth and Shelter Services.
