Saying there simply aren’t enough women choosing to deliver babies locally, Unity Point Marshalltown says it will be closing its obstetrics and women’s health care center at the hospital on September 30th.
The company says there has been a 45 percent decrease in the number of births, with a low of 18 in March.
Unity Point Health says women’s pediatric and infant care will still be offered at clinics at Marshalltown, Tama/Toledo, State Center, and Conrad.
Unity Point says this is the last and final service that will be closing in the immediate future.
