The Marshalltown City Council moved ahead with setting a public hearing on borrowing up to nine-point-seven million dollars of general obligation bonds to fund a number of projects throughout the city. However, the vote to move ahead was close, by a 4-3 margin to proceed. Councilor Leon Lamer was the first to express concern that the city might be extending its lending limit too far.
Lamer, along with Al Hoop and Mike Gowdy voted against setting the public hearing date. That hearing is slated for the next City Council meeting on October 29th.
In other action, the Council approved dedicating the new FIre and Police Building in the name of former Mayor Tommy Thompson and the training room in the name of former 1st Ward Councilor Bob Schubert.
The Council also directed staff to move ahead with planning and design for a new sidewalk on 12th Avenue, as it had previously discussed.
