You may have heard about the standoff involving a SWAT team last night in the 800 block of North 5th Avenue.
Marshalltown Police now say that was all part of an investigation into an attempted murder.
Just after midnight yesterday morning, officers were called to a report of a shooting at 711 N. 4th Avenue. The victim, George Sims Jr. was eventually taken to a Des Moines hospital where he is listed in good condition.
Marshalltown Police Captain Brain Batterson says that led into 24 hours of investigating. That included searching a home in the 800 block of North 5th Avenue, with the assistance of the SWAT team. Robert Fite, Jr. was eventually arrested on a parole violation and also charged with Accessory after the fact. A weapon was also recovered from the house. Late last night Joseph Bown was arrested on a traffic stop on North 13th Street and charged with attempted murder.
Marshalltown Police Captain BrianBatterson says no shots, aside from the initial murder attempt, were fired. What some residents may have heard during the standoff on North 5th Avenue was tactics used to try and make Fite Jr. come out of the house, including breaking some windows.
