High winds are whipping snow around in Northwest Iowa, but not as much of the white stuff fell as was forecast.  On average, 2-5 inches of snow fell on a line north of Storm Lake to Mason City.

43-year old John Urfer of Grinnell was sentenced to 260 months in a federal prison on a charge of receiving child pornography.  He will also have to serve 20 years of supervised release once his prison term ends.

Ames police have arrested an Iowa State student on charges of harassment and criminal mischief.  Kyle Haney was taken into custody concerning an incident where he reportedly threatened his roommate, and said he wanted to kill all Asians.

Sometime in the future, Squaw Creek in Ames will be renamed.  The U. S. Board of Geographic Names received a complaint that the name was offensive to Native Americans.  The Board will likely make the final decision on the creek’s future name.

Sports

For the first time in almost a year, the Bobcat girl’s basketball team is in the win column following a 48-37 win at Des Moines Hoover Tuesday night.

The top-ranked Duke men’s basketball team lost to Stephen F. Austin Tuesday night, 85-83 in overtime.
