Some customers of Alliant Energy were not happy when the utility proposed raising electrical rates by over $203 million dollars last March.
Today, the Iowa Utilities Board issued a decision which allow an annual increase of $127 million dollars. The decision also calls for refunds totaling $7.5 million dollars to customers who paid for the interim rate.
Under the agreement, residential customers’ charges will increase from $11.50 to $13.00 per month, with the increase for general service customers going from nineteen to twenty dollars.
Customers who opt out of an advanced meter will be charged a fee of $4.06 per month.
The Utilities Board reported over 5,600 written public comments in regards to the Alliant proposal.
