How much, when and for what. There were many items the Marshalltown City Council discussed last night that tried to answer those questions when it came to the budget.
One subject was the proposed usage of $428,000 remaining from the insurance proceeds for the now-demolished former Senior Citizens Center. Councillor Gary Thompson suggested using those funds for the library expansion, rather than help fund the gap in funding for the Coliseum renovation. Councilors Mike Gowdy and Al Hoop stated they were ready to use those funds for the Coliseum.
The Council directed staff to move forward with submitting a resolution for those funds to be transferred to the Coliseum fund. The Council also gave final approval to lowering the speed limit on a portion of 12th Street to 35 mph.
