As you know by now, Governor Kim Reynolds has closed schools for the remainder of the academic year. She says it was among the many difficult decisions she’s had to make sure the pandemic.
Iowa Department of Education director Ann Lebo says school districts must present a “Return to Learn” plan to the state by July 1st to help students catch up for lost time in the classroom.
Marshalltown Schools says June 4th will be the last day of school for students, with June 8th the last workday for teachers. Voluntary learning at home will continue for the rest of the session. The district says students and staff will be able to pick up personal items from district buildings on a schedule yet to be determined.
The Marshalltown School Board will discuss the situation further when it meets virtually Monday at 5:00.
The governor’s order that applies to business and facility closures runs through April 30th and she has not indicated when she may decide if that’s extended into May.
