A peaceful protest in response to the death of George Floyd while in police custody led to some destruction and an hour long standoff with police in Des Moines last night. At least ten protesters were arrested.

On Friday afternoon in Sioux City, about 100 people marched to the city’s police station. The group was vocal, but peaceful.

Several other marches and protests are planned around the state this weekend in response to George Floyd’s death. The white policeman seen in a bystander’s video kneeling on Floyd’s neck for several minutes, while Floyd was handcuffed, was arrested Friday and charged with third degree murder and manslaughter.
