A Friday evening fire in Ames caused about $15,00o in damages but no one was hurt.
Firefighters responded to smoke coming from the roof of 205 S. Hyland Ave. and flames coming from the attic of the two-story apartment.
Fire crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire and keep it from spreading to the rest of the structure. Damage was confined to the attic and one of the bedrooms in the apartment. Everyone made it out of the apartment safely thanks to a quick-thinking passerby who noticed the smoke coming from the roof and notified the occupants to exit the building.
