Technology has helped the National Weather Service identify that four tornadoes did touch down during the August 10th derecho.
Two were EF-1’s, the strength of the other two could not be determined. The tornadoes touched down Southwest of LaMoille, Northeast of Minvera, Northeast of Marshalltown and southwest of Gladbrook.
As we shared with you last week, FEMA is making adjustments to the drive-through derecho disaster recovery centers in Iowa. The Marshall County location is closing Saturday evening at 6:00. Spokesman John Mills says that center has been seeing between about 20 and 50 people a day.
Mills says the disaster centers are just one option for getting help.
Mills says FEMA is able to work one-on-one with people –whether they have insurance or not — if they have serious damage to their homes. The derecho traveled across Iowa on August 10th.
