Iowa Republicans had a big night – and a lot to cheer about in a post election rally in the capital city.
Incumbent Joni Ernst prevailed over Democratic challenger Teresa Greenfield is easily the biggest ticket-money wise- race in the state. Ernst received nearly 52 percent of the votes to just over 45 percent for Greenfield.
Iowa’s first congressional district will have a new face representing it in the nation’s capital. Republican Ashely Hinson upended incumbent Abby Finkenauer 51 percent to 49 per cent…or by about 11,000 votes.
Congresswoman Finkenauer issued written statement, too, saying given the historic turnout, her campaign team will review data on outstanding ballots and provide an update sometime today.
In the other congressional races, Democrat Cindy Axne was re-elected by defeating Republican David Young for the second consecutive election.
In the 2nd congressional race, Republican Marianette Miller-Meeks edged Democrat Rita Hart by 282 votes, but that race is still pending, according to Democrats, who say there may be absentee ballots out there. And in the 4th District, Randy Feenstra will keep that seat in Republican hands with a decisive win over Democrat J.D. Scholten.
