A busy 24 hours or so for Marshalltown firefighters.

They an early wake up call yesterday due to a house fire in the 700 block of North 4th Avenue. The fire was located in the basement and subsequently in the floor cavity and wall. Residents of the house were able to get out safely. The cause of the fire reported as combustible material near a wood-burning stove.

The damage was estimated at around $4,000.

Just after midnight this morning, crews were back in the same block of 700 north 4th Avenue in response to a trailer fire. Firefighters found the trailer on fire in the driveway, as well as into the wall and attic area of the house. No one was at home at the time of the fire. No cause has yet been determined for this morning’s blaze.
