The initial does of vaccines for the coronavirus is making its way to the Hawkeye State. Governor Kim Reynolds announced that approximately 172,000 doses of the various approved vaccines will be delivered to Iowa between now and the end of the month, with the first doses arriving the week of December 13th. Initially, physicians and other health care providers, along with staff and residents in long-term care facilities will be first in line to receive the vaccines.

One vaccine is said to have an efficacy rate of 95-percent and it has to be given in two doses, 21 days apart. Iowa Department of Human Services director Kelly Garcia says storage is key

Both Garcia and the Governor emphasized that the vaccines won’t be widely available to the rest of us until the middle of 2021.
