The Iowa League of United Latin American Citizens, or LULAC, filed suit yesterday against a new state law that Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds says will ensure the integrity of elections.

But Joe Enriquez Henry, of LULAC, says the lack of fraud has been well-established, including in Iowa.  Other voting-rights advocates say this plan, and similar restrictions being pushed in other states, are a response to the outcome of the presidential election. Henry argues that Iowa’s process has worked just fine, and thinks it’s the deeply divided political climate that changed the minds of certain lawmakers.

LULAC asserts that constitutional rights are being violated with the new law. Henry says the new law will make it harder for younger Latinos, or those who lack transportation, to vote.
