A busy Marshalltown City Council meeting was highlighted by the first report on how the start of the MPACT program between Marshalltown Police and YSS has…made an impact. YSS Executive Director David Hicks shared with the Council that in the first two months of the program, February and March, the social workers attached to the PD responded to 42 calls and helped 60 people.

Hicks says 29 percent of those who were assisted were facing mental health challenges. He says that percentage is not a surprise to him. He also noted that Friday night is what  Hicks referred to as “the hot night” when calls seemed to be more frequent.
