The Marshalltown City Council grappled with the nuances of the history of the Fisher Community Center last night on several fronts, one of which was the land it and the Y Cultural Center stand. Those 10 acres are owned by the DOT as right-of-way. The DOT appears to be willing to sell the 6-point-three for the Community Center to the City for $44,000 dollars and the City would then sell it back to the Fisher Board of Governors. Councilor Gary Thompson asked why wouldn’t the city buy the land at that reduced rate and in, essence, sell it to the highest bidder. VIce President of the Fisher Board of Governors CArol Hibbs said the 6 million dollar renovation won’t happen and the city might end up owning the Y as well.

The Council authorized a letter be sent to the DOT, authorizing the purchase.
