Among the many area services available for those who may be struggling is the House of Compassion. Chad Hammar recently joined the HOC as its director. In addition to serving meals 6 nights a week for anyone who is hungry, as well as being a supply closet, the HOC used to be an overnight shelter. Hammar was thinking he wanted to bring that back until he visited with folks from the Bridge Home in Ames. That organization is and will be working with the homeless for shelter needs going forward.

Hammar says he still envisions developing the HOC into more of a campus to help out those who need assistance. Adding it doesn’t matter if its homelessness or any other issue, he just wants to serve folks who need help getting back on track.
