The owners of a major tool production facility in Marshalltown are looking to retool another portion of Marshalltown. Joe and Janell Carter of Marshalltown Company have purchased the Williards building downtown and have an option on the neighboring Hopkins building. They went before the City Council proposing a nearly five million dollar renovation of the buildings resulting in 14 living spaces and three retail spaces. With granting and other investments, Carter says they still have a gap of three-quarters of a million dollars.
The Council will be looking at recommending pledging $300,000 from a Community Block Grant Development.
Also last night, the City Council voted to raise the debt ceiling for borrowing to 70 percent. A motion two weeks to raise it to 75 percent failed to pass.
