The Mason City School Board voted to retire the school’s Mohawks nickname effective today.

The Mohawk name, logo and symbol will no longer be used. The search for a new mascot will begin after the first of the year, with a new one selected in the Spring.

Just last month, the Meskwaki Nation called upon 66 schools in the state to retire native-themed mascots.
