For some of the folks involved, it may not seem like a year since Marshalltown Police and YSS of Marshall County embarked on the MPACT program…Marshalltown Police and Community Team. At last night’s City Council meeting, the two departments reported on how the program has successfully evolved. Ryan Keller of YSS gave the example of one lady who called police constantly, fearing someone was out to “get here”. Once police were able to call an MPACT advocate to the scene and get the two talking, it helped the lady make connections with the mental health services she needed.
Keller noted that is just one example from among the 475 contacts MPACT has made with folks since February. The City Council approved the continuation of the program at last night’s meeting.
