Police in Ames say a man is facing an attempted murder charge after investigators say he allegedly fired shots at his son after an argument over loud music.
At approximately 8:05 a.m. Wednesday, Ames Police were notified of a shooting at 624 Duff Avenue. Responding officers interviewed the victim who stated that his father and had fired two or three shots at him after an argument over loud music. The rounds did not strike the victim and he was not injured.
A search warrant was issued at the scene and a follow-up investigation by police revealed that shots were fired. Officers recovered a firearm and ammunition from the defendent’s home.
Police quickly determined that the matter was a family dispute and there was no immediate threat to the public.
The suspect, who was identified as 69-year-old Major Robinson, was placed under arrest by police and charged with attempted murder, a class B felony; and assault with a dangerous weapon, which is an aggravated misdemeanor.
The incident remains under investigation by the Ames Police Department.
