Voters in the Gladbrook-Reinbeck School District have approved extending the district’s current physical plant and equipment levy for another 10 years.
District patrons went to the polls to vote on the issue Tuesday with the measure passing by a margin of 208 to 143.
Although Reinbeck voters overwhelmingly approved the measure, voters in the Gladbrook area were almost entirely against renewing the levy, according to election officials.
Tuesday’s ballot issue was the first public measure school vote at Gladbrook-Reinbeck since the district voted on whether to dissolve the district in 2017, a measure that failed to pass by nearly a 20-point margin.
This week, district patrons were asked for permission to keep the voter-approved PPEL levy at the same 67 cent rate that had been in place over the past 10 years.
Following this week’s vote, the district’s PPEL levy will be in effect for 10 years from 2024 to 2034.
