On Tuesday, the Marshall County Board of Supervisors heard from County Treasurer Jarret Heil, who addressed concerns with the pay grade scale that is used for employees in his department, compared to other county departments.
According to Heil, there is a 13 percent wage gap between positions of the same grade in the treasurer’s office and other county departments.
Heil also noted that he recently lost an employee from the department because the individual was able to find another position outside the office that paid significantly more than what they were currently receiving.
As the county board works to put together a proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year, heil suggested that roughly $30,000 in revenues be redistributed in a way that would help benefit employees under his jurisdiction. Approximately half of the overall deduction would involve a decrease in IT software costs, with the remaining amount involving reductions from the treasurer’s budget.
In addition to Heil, the treasurer’s office currently has six other full-time employees, and is looking to fill two other positions, as well.
The board did not take any official action on the matter, noting the county budget will not be finalized and approved until later this month.
