Two Mason City men have been arrested by law enforcement authorities in Grundy County for attempted ATM burglaries at two different banks in the town of Dike on January 5th.
Thirty-year-old Ryan Marek and 36-year-old Brandon Hufstedler have both been charged with burglary in connection with the incidents.
According to the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, the suspects attempted to use a vehicle to remove an ATM machine located in the front lobby of Fidelity Bank in downtown Dike. The suspects also tried to gain access to another ATM machine outside Peoples Savings Bank using a crowbar and sledge hammer.
The Reinbeck Memorial Building in Reinbeck was also burglarized the same day.
Nothing was reported stolen from either of the two banks, according to the sheriff’s office.
Marek was arrested by law enforcement authorities in garner on Tuesday. Hufstedler is currently being held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail in Mason City on unrelated charges and will later be transported back to Grundy County.
Marek and Hufstedler are each charged with one count of Second Degree Burglary, three counts of Third Degree Burglary, Second Degree Criminal Mischief, Operating a Motor Vehicle Without the Owners Consent, Third Degree Attempted Burglary, and Possession of Burglary Tools.
