A proposed campground development project at the Green Castle Recreation Area in Marshall County has been put on hold until further notice by the Marshall County Conservation Board.

The issue was brought up for discussion and possible action at Monday’s conservation board meeting., but no formal action was taken by the board.

Con-Struct Corporation of Marshalltown presented the lone bid for the project, which would have initially allowed for the development of 14 new campsites as the first phase of a larger project which would involve building 60 news sites, at a total cost of just over $1 million dollars.

The initial bid package received for the project came in much higher than expected.

Matt Garber of Clapsaddle-Garber Associates reviewed the bid package with the board and further indicated he would work more closely with Con-Struct Corporation to try to lower the overall cost of the project before the next conservation board meeting in April.
