A Baxter man is facing charges after becoming involved in a recent vehicle chase with police in Newton with the chase coming to an end when the vehicle crashed into a residential home.
The sequence of events occurred on March 20th when Newton Police attempted to initiate a traffic stop near the intersection of Iowa Speedway Drive and First Avenue East.
The driver, 29-year-old Dustin Bestell of Baxter, instead sped away with the pursuit ending about four minutes later when the vehicle entered a residential back yard and crashed into a house.
Bestell then attempted to flee the scene on foot, but was captured by police a short time later.
Bestell was charged with eluding, driving with a suspended license, reckless driving, possession of drug paraphernalia, and interfering with officials acts.
He’ currently being held in the Jasper County Jail.
