The filing deadline for candidates seeking to fill county office positions in the state of Iowa in the year 2022 has officially passed as of 5 p.m. Friday, Mar. 25th.
In Marshall County, several people have filed nomination papers for positions on the County Board of Supervisors ahead of the June 2nd Primary Election.
Linda Von Holton of Haverhill filed to run as a Democrat and is the only candidate currently involved in that primary.
Incumbent and current Supervisors Chair Dave Thompson, a Republican, is seeking a fourth term in office.
Fellow Incumbent Bill Patten, who was first elected to the board in 2014, is not seeking re-election.
Other Republican candidates seeking to serve on the county board include Marshall County Treasurer Jarret Heil, Marshall County YMCA/YWCA CEO Carol Hibbs, and Laurel Mayor Evan Folk.
Mark Giannetto of Marshalltown has also filed paperwork to serve on the County Supervisors Board, but will n0ot be on the ballot until November, as he is not participating in a party primary.
Incumbent Marshall County Attorney Jordan Gaffney, a Republican, will be running unopposed in the June Primary Election, while Assistant County Attorney Sarah Tupper will be seeking the same position as a Democratic candidate.
Meanwhile, Deann Tomlinson and Mark Eaton, both Republicans, have both filed paperwork for the position of Marshall County Attorney in 2022.
Current Marshall County Sheriff Joel Phillips, who was initially appointed to the position in 2021 after the departure of Steve Hoffman, will not face a primary or general election challenge barring a write-in campaign en-route to his first full term in office.
