The Marshalltown Fire Department is advising the public that April 1, 2022 at 10 a.m. marks the first day for the spring open burning period.
Open burning for the spring burning period ends on June 30th.
Residents are asked to keep in mind the following guidelines when it comes to spring open burning: Burning is confined to yard waste only. Burning of garbage or trash is strictly prohibited. All burn piles must be constantly supervised. There must be a convenient way to extinguish the fire, such as a garden hose at all times. Burning must be at least 50 feet away from any structure. If bunding is done in a container with a cover to prevent flying embers, the distance shall not be less than 15 feet. Burning will not be allowed if the wind reaches 15 miles per hour or greater.
Everyone is advised to take their neighbors into consideration when conducting open burning.
Anyone who may have questions about the city of Marshalltown’s spring open burning policy is asked to contact Fire Marshal Joshua Warnell at (641) 754-5751.
