Tama County Recorder Deborah Kupka, and County Treasurer Michelle Yuska, both announced their resignations at last week’s county supervisors meeting.

Kupka has served as county recorder for Tama County since 2005. She plans to retire from the position, effective July 29th.

Yuska has worked in the Tama County Treasurer’s Office since 2005, and has served as treasurer since 2010.

Yuska’s resignation comes as a result of a career change. Yuska informed the county board she had recently accepted a job offer to be the next city clerk for the City of Ankeny.

Amelia Kemper of Toledo has filed nomination papers to run in the recorder’s race as a Republican candidate.

As of now, no one has expressed interest in running for the treasurer’s position in Tama County.

In order to appear on the November ballot as a Republican or Democratic party candidate, interested parties were required to file nomination papers with the county auditor’s office by 5 p.m. on March 25th.

The County Board of Supervisors is allowed to appoint a specific individual to a given position, through no indication was given at last week’s meeting as to when those decisions would be made.

Similar to elected official vacancies a the city level, voters are allowed to petition to call for a special election to fill a vacancy in lieu of an appointment if enough signatures are gathered in the petition.
