A Kwik Star convenience store in Iowa Falls has been shut down immediately after customers and store employees became ill on Tuesday, with at least two people being sent to the hospital.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the store just before 9:30 a.m.

Local emergency management officials have been in contact with the state hygienic lab which has been working with poison control and the 71st Civil Support Team from Des Moines to help with the investigation.

In October of 2019, 14 employees from the same store were taken to the hospital over a two-day period.  In that case, it was determined the cause was sewer gas venting through the store.

At this time, it is unclear if a similar issue may have led to the workers at the store becoming ill on Tuesday.
