Fire departments from Grinnell and Kellogg were called upon to battle an open field fire Monday just south of Interstate 80 in the far eastern part of Jasper County.
When firefighters arrived on the scene, they found a large area of grassland fully engulfed in flames.
The Grinnell Fire Department dispatched one engine truck, two brush trucks, and a tanker to the scene while the Kellogg Fire Department assisted with one brush truck, a pumper unit, rescue truck, and an ATV.
At this time, there’s no word on how the fire started.
Firefighters remained on the scene into the evening hours.
The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department also assisted at the scene.
