The Iowa Falls School District is looking to reward employees who were left out of Governor Reynolds Teacher Retention Bonus Program by providing bonuses to every employee within the district, regardless of job status.
The Iowa Falls district has 192 employees, 92 of which received the $1,000 state-funded bonuses on their paycheck.
The other 100 employees, who are not classified as full-time status, did not receive bonuses. The issue has been addressed by school districts across the state. The greater majority of those districts have agreed to provide some type of bonus to employees who were left out while a select few have decided not to offer bonuses.
At a meeting earlier this week, the Alden School Board voted to table the matter until next month.
The Iowa Falls School Board did agree to provide $1,000 bonuses to all certified staff, regardless of the number of hours they work in a given week. The district will also pay $1,000 to every non-certified employee who works 0.6 full time equivalent or more. Employees who work 0.59 full time equivalent or less will receive a $500 bonus. The bonuses will be included in the employees June paycheck after they have worked through the end of the current school year. The bonuses will only be paid to employees who were hired by the district before Oct. 21, 2021.
Iowa Falls School Superintendent Tony Neumann indicated that the money used for the bonuses will come from the district’s general fund.
