On Tuesday, the LeGrand City Council denied a controversial zoning request made by a local resident who has long had aspirations of using the property for building a line of new rental storage units.
After months of debate, the council made the decision to deny the request made by Mike Wright involving property at 506 West Main Street. Wright, the owner of Wright’s Construction and Development Incorporated, was hoping to have the property rezoned from residential to commercial, something community members and council members alike expressed mixed feelings about during recent meetings.
A public hearing was held prior to the council taking action on the matter, at which time several community members spoke out against the rezoning.
The issue was defeated b ya narrow 3-2 margin with council members Don Weitzell, Todd Parish and Tyler Sawyer voting against the rezoning, while council members Troy Underhill and Judy Cecak voted to approve it.
