At Tuesday’s regular meeting, the Marshall County Supervisors approved a letter of support on behalf of the city of Marshalltown as it applies for nearly $19 million in RAISE grant funds from the U.S. Department of Transportation for a proposed Highway 14 reconstruction project.
The project would include the area from Anson Street to the northern city limits.
The roughly $28 million project would include street reconstruction work, utility work for new water mains, sanitary and storm sewers, sidewalk improvements, handicap accessible sidewalks, and a four-lane to three-lane conversion and beautification.
Also at Tuesday’s meeting, Lucas Baedke, Building and Grounds Director, presented a proposal from OPN Architects for design work for future upgrades at the Marshall County Jail Complex and Sheriff’s Office totaling more than $54,000. Supervisors approved the agreement with OPN to proceed with the design phase of the project.
Marshall County Emergency Management Director Kim Elder provided the board with an update on the federal grant application process for the rural siren project, noting that the application for the project was submitted last Sunday.
The board also approved the hiring of Rachel King as a universal clerk in the county treasurer’s office at a starting salary of $17.05 per hour.
