On Thursday, police in Ames responded to a report of a suicidal subject who had barricaded himself inside a local residence.
At approximately 12:18 p.m., officers were dispatched to a report of a standoff involving a male subject at a home located on Maxwell Avenue.
Officers from the crisis negotiation team, along with an Ames police mental health advocate made contact with the individual.
Additional mental health professionals were utilized, as well, throughout the incident.
As the day went on, the individual made threats to harm others and had weapons available.
Ames police contained the area and deployed the emergency response team to set up a perimeter. At approximately 7:20 p.m., the individual exited the residence and attempted to get into a car. At that time, members of the emergency response team were able to take the person safely into custody.
The individual was then transported to Mary Greeley Medical Center for evaluation.
