The Ames Fire Department responded to a structure fire Thursday morning at a local apartment complex.
Shortly after 10:00 a.m., local fire crews were dispatched to 527 East Lincoln Way after a caller reported smoke coming from the end unit of a multi-family apartment building.
When firefighters arrived on the scene, they discovered smoke coming from the unit, but no inhabitants were in the apartment at the time.
Firefighters then entered the apartment, located the fire, and quickly extinguished it.
Damage was confined primarily to the apartment where the fire occurred with some fire damage being reported to an adjacent unit, as well.
Fire fighters helped evacuate residents from six other units, and there were no injuries.
Electricity and water were shut-off during the response, and the rec cross was contacted to provide assistance to residents of the building.
Ames fire crews from all three stations within the city responded to the incident.
