Members of the Marshalltown City Council and the Marshall County Board of Supervisors held a joint meeting Monday at the veteran’s Memorial Coliseum on West State Street in Marshalltown.

Local sources say the event was the first combined gathering held between the two governmental bodies in a number of years.

During Monday’s joint session, both sides discussed possible ways of utilizing funds made available through the American Rescue Plan Act.

The two sides also discussed the need for paving a section of County Road 233rd Street from Highland Acres Road to the Grimes Farm in an effort to make the road more user friendly for people visiting the Grimes Farm and Conservation Center.

A proposed downtown improvement plan for the city of Marshalltown was also presented by Marshalltown City Administrator Jessica Kinser.  The two sides also discussed a proposal by the county to acquire property within the City of Marshalltown that could possibly be used as a county road maintenance equipment storage site.

In concluding, both sides indicated a desire to hopefully meet again sometime during the current year to share ideas that are beneficial to each governmental entity.
