The Marshall County Supervisors approved a new five-year road construction plan for the county during a special meeting on Tuesday.

Marshall County Engineer Paul Geilenfeldt was on hand to review the plan with the board at Tuesday’s meeting.

Geilenfeldt noted that fiscal year 2023 should be a busy period for road and bridge improvements throughout the county.

Six bridge replacement projects are planned during that time with the Jessup Avenue project being the most expensive on the priority list at a total estimated cost of $1.5 million.

Fiscal year 2023 will be a busy time for road improvement projects, as well, with total expenditures for county road projects estimated at $4.3 million dollars.

The board discussed the possibility of using funds set aside through the American Rescue Plan Act to offset some of the estimated project costs if monies from that account are still available.  It was noted that the ARPA funds were initially earmarked for local conservation projects, but may be used to help offset some of the initial costs involved with completing vital road projects if it’s determined that the conservation projects are not deemed feasible.
