The Nevada Fire Department was called to a house fire that broke out in the community Sunday evening.

Investigators say the fire was initially discovered by a Nevada police officer who saw flames coming from the home and promptly contacted the Story County Dispatch Center, which then paged the Nevada Fire Department to the scene.

Prior to firefighter’s arrival, the Nevada police officer jumped into action by deploying a fire extinguisher which helped contain the fire.

A preliminary investigation revealed the blaze originated from a grease fire which broke out on the kitchen stove.

When local fire crews arrived on the scene, they checked for occupants and then ventilated the home.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters remained on  the scene for just a short period of time.
