A West Des Moines man was arrested by authorities early Saturday morning following a high-speed chase which began in Marshall County before eventually ending in neighboring Jasper County.

The sequence of events began at approximately 2:40 a.m. on Saturday when a Marshall County Sheriff’s Deputy did an inspection of an occupied vehicle which  was parked at a closed gas station near Melbourne.

The inspection revealed that the driver, 34-year-old Austin Hill, had warrants out of five different counties and also had a revoked Iowa driver’s license.

After being questioned by the sheriff’s deputy, Hill drove away, at which time a pursuit ensued reaching speeds of more than 100 miles an hour across parts of Marshall, Polk and Jasper counties.  The chase eventually came to an end when the vehicle became stranded in a corn field in Jasper County.

Hill was then arrested by authorities and placed in the Marshall County Jail.  He was charged with eluding, reckless driving, speeding, driving while barred, driving while revoked, driving under suspension,  failing to have a valid driver’s license, operating a motor vehicle without an ignition interlock device, and providing false information.
