The Ames Police Department is investigating an early morning shooting incident that occurred Monday on the city’s south side.
At 12:45 a.m., the Ames Police Department responded to Mary Greeley Hospital for a victim with a reported gunshot wound.
Upon further investigation, officers learned that the shooting had occurred a few minutes earlier in the 600 block of South 17th Street.
Officers and detectives continue to investigate. The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The victim’s condition is unknow at this time. The Ames Police Department does not believe the situation poses an immediate threat to the public.
